BOOTCAMPS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Which language should I apply? What if I’m not proficient in English?

We encourage you to apply to any Camp in the language you feel most comfortable in. We require a medium proficiency level to fully understand and live the experience in English Camps

What are the stages of the application process?

First comes filling out the application form that is on our website (available only when our applications are open), then LALA Admissions Team will review applications and send acceptance and rejection letters for interviews, which is the next step as well. Once interviews are done, pre-final candidates applications will be reviewed by the team, and lastly, LALA will send either an acceptance or rejection letter for the Camp.

Can I switch to a camp in my native language?

Yes; it is permitted once accepted as a final candidate and received your acceptance letter.

What happens if I cannot attend a camp now but would like to do it in the future?

We’d love to have you joining us! You can always re-apply to our future camps.

What is the difference between V-Camps and Bootcamps?

Given the impact of COVID-19 in all of our lives, we had to switch our amazing live experiences to the virtual world! You will get the same quality of Camps and activities, just through a screen this time.

What financial aid does LALA offer?

Our scholarships are a deducted percentage of the full Bootcamp price. The scholarships are distributed according to the household income self-declared by applicants in the financial form, that is part of the application process. Simply put, applicants with lower income are more likely to receive scholarships than applicants with higherincome.

What happens if I cannot make the full payment?

As a nonprofit organization that develops the emerging leaders of Latin America, we encourage you to take on our Fundraising method. We provide webinars and resources to help you figure out how to raise funds to be able to cover the costs of the Bootcamp.

Do I need to buy special material/aid for the camps?

One week before your bootcamp start, you will be sent an email with all the information and resources you’ll need. There is no need to buy anything specifically.

I need to speak to someone about my financial situation. What can I do?

Should you have a private financial situation, please email us at financialaid@somoslala.org.

I have general inquiries. Who should I contact?

Always contact us for general concerns at lalabootcamps@somoslala.org, with the email subject being depending on the following:

  • Personal Matter - Name
  • Financial Aid - Name
  • General Question - Name

Could you speak to my parents?

If you have a private situation that requires us to do that, we’d be happy to help. Please email us at familysupport@somoslala.org

Can I apply for more than one bootcamp?

Yes, you will be able to apply to up to 3 bootcamps, but will only be accepted in one of them. We have the same application form for all the bootcamps.

Where can I choose the bootcamps I want to apply for?

You will be able to choose the bootcamps on the application form.

What is the difference between the bootcamps?

Basically, the only difference between the bootcamps is the location. Other than that, the entire methodology, facilitators and curriculum is the same, so we can guarantee the same high quality experience for all the students across Latin America.

When will I know if I received a scholarship?

Scholarships will be awarded together with the acceptance letter.

Can I apply if I am not 14-18 years old?

Yes! We will consider exceptional applicants outside this age range on a case-by-case basis.

What is included in the cost of the bootcamp?

Your accommodation, meals, local transportation (airport pick up), all the sessions and lectures and city tours. Flight and travel expenses are not included in the cost of the program.

Where will the bootcamps take place and where will I stay?

For all the bootcamps we will use our local partners facilities, such as CoWorking Spaces, College Campus and Social Innovation Company's facilities. The students and faculty will stay at a Hostel nearby the facilities.

How many people from the LALA Staff will be at each Bootcamp?

We will have an average of 5 Staff members at each bootcamp. Two facilitators, one bootcamp manager and two supporting staff.

Is anyone from the LALA Staff picking me up at the airport?

Yes! We will have a LALA Staff member at each airport or bus station meeting the students and making sure they arrive at the hostel safe.

Can I apply to the Bootcamps after the deadline?

Yes you can, but your chances of being admitted and receiving a scholarship decreases substantially.

Will we tour the city during the bootcamp?

No. The LALA bootcamp staff, regardless of the location, doesn't offer tours around the city the camp takes place. We do actually have a community visit as part of our curriculum, but please be aware that its purpose is not touristic but educational! If one of your intentions behind attending a LALA bootcamp is getting to know the host city, we would strongly encourage you to arrive before the start of your bootcamp or staying after the end of it. However, keep in mind that LALA won't be financially or legally resposible for you outside the camp you attend.
